Align yourself not only in reaction to who your parents are or aren’t, but in response to who you needed." Thank you for this line because damn I needed this because I love my parents but I don't want to be like them and that's for both the good and bad reasons but still I somehow catch them in myself and I don't like that version of me.

This you wrote here is so apt. I've been observing myself and noticing similar traits from my parents to me. Growing up I seemed like a blueprint of my mom. Seeing my mom didn't gain anything from being so kind in this wicked world I consciously chose the opposite. Like I'm afraid if becoming her and also dreading becoming my dad. I'm really avoiding walking in their shoes in several aspect of my life. Thank you so much for this.
